About Diane Noble

As an artist and art educator I have created in many art mediums, but since the summer of 2005 have focused on acrylic painting. The natural beauty of Maine’s coast and islands, the pine trees and rocky shore inspire me.

I look to capture the quaintness of Maine with its beautiful coast and islands, lighthouses, rugged fish shacks, unpretentious buildings on docks and on land. I paint where I love to be and feel comfortable, where I feel a sense of place and time, often plein-air in the warmer weather and also in my studio. Simple shapes with light on them, interesting colors and compositions interest me, whether it is a landscape, a rowboat, a dinner, my dog, or an old truck or car.

I like to layer paint with a strong under painting of blue violet, red violet, yellow ochre, often letting a sparkle of blue violet shine through. I like how colors interact with one another and vibrate off each other, often surprising me with their beauty.
